Who We Serve
The GEM Center serves learners K-8 with with behavioral and social-emotional challenges. A typical GEM Center learner may be deemed Twice-Exceptional, and may have co-occurring diagnoses of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (levels 1-3) and other psychiatric diagnoses (ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, etc.). Many of our learners have not yet had consistent success in a traditional learning environment, and excel with hands-on learning provided in an individualized, low ratio environment. Our children thrive when their educational, behavioral and social-emotional needs are met, and their unique strengths and interests are integrated into their day for maximum buy-in. Our students flourish when they are celebrated, challenged, and find meaning and purpose in their activities.
